Our 5 Favorite CES Gadgets [Friday Five]

Did you miss the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this month? It was a great year for the popular tech conference, with a number of exciting gadgets having been revealed. Here are our five favorite gadgets to come out of CES this year:

1) MakerBot 3D Printer

3D printers have been a hot topic, so it’s no surprise they took center stage at CES this year. MakerBot took the opportunity to reveal its latest 3D printers, the MakerBot Replicator Mini (coming soon), MakerBot Replicator Z18 (coming soon), and Maker Replicator (available now).

makerbot 3d printerWhy do we love these devices? Because they are easy-to-use and actually something us regular folks can purchase. No need to be a techie or have deep pockets. That’s right folks, the future is here!

2) Ventev’s Power Charger

Today’s smartphones are amazing. They allow us to play games, run presentations, organize our lives, navigate and so much more. But running apps, taking pictures and talking eats up battery life, and fast! Ventev revealed several chargers to help ameliorate the problem, including the Powercell 6000+ and UtilityCharger 2100. The chargers range in price from $29.99 to $74.99 and provide all the conveniences one would hope for (slick design, multiple USB outputs, hours of talk time, etc.).

3) Philips Screeneo HDP1590

If your office uses projectors for meetings or presentations, you’ll be excited about the Philips Screeneo HDP1590. The ultra short-throw projector casts a 720p image and costs $1,799. It’s not in stores yet but is expected to begin shipping this April. We love this gadget because it’s not only innovative but also accessible for the average small business owner or entrepreneur – many projectors can cost upwards of $4,000.

  • Adjustable image size from 50 to 100 inches
  • Integrated Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, DLNA, USB and HDMI
  • A slot for SD cards
  • 4GB internal memory
  • Android OS
  • Built-in speakers

4) LaCie Sphere

Portable storage devices are important for folks like myself who are always on the go. This new USB 3.0 portable drive makes our list because, well, it looks pretty cool!

LaCie SphereAs the name would suggest, this gadget is a sphere – but not just any sphere. French luxury silver craft designer Christofle partnered with LaCie to design a handcrafted silver-plated case for the hard drive inside. It’s both beautiful and functional.

5) Bluetooth Speakers

There was no shortage of Bluetooth speakers at this year’s CES. Whether for business, pleasure or both, Bluetooth speakers make life easier and more pleasant. We liked Fugoo’s line of rugged speakers, designed especially for outdoor use. They can be used indoors, too, of course (and would be perfect for events or other demanding applications).

What new gadgets are you most excited about? Or are you happy with what you’ve got?
