Team RingCentral Wins the Rolex Big Boat Series Regatta!
Jutting out off the shores of San Francisco’s iconic St. Francis Yacht Club were the familiar colors of Orange and Blue, this time on the sails; of Rob Theis’s J111, Aeolus. Looking to repeat their victory of the internationally recognized Rolex Big Boat Series, Team RingCentral finished one point ahead of the fleet securing their place as the 2015 champions.
The Rolex Big Boat Series attracts over one hundred boats from around the United States, and world, to come take on the notorious San Francisco Bay waters that played home to the 2013 America’s Cup where Team Oracle took home the crown. The J111 class of boats are a high-performance, elite sailing machines that require perfect coordination and communication between the skipper (boat driver) and crew in making sail adjustments, and strategically navigating the course. Rob and team RingCentral were able to outwit the unpredictable winds, currents that make San Francisco Bay one of the most sought after venues in the sailing world.
A four-day event, with 2 races on each day involving sometimes over 20 nautical miles of racing, Team RingCentral jumped off to an early lead by finishing 1st and 2nd the first day. The completion heated up on day two and three with two other boats on their tail, but Team RingCentral was able to hold them off to secure a one-point lead heading into the final day. The winds proved non-existent on the final day where races canceled and gave Team RingCentral the slight lead over the fleet.
Strong team work, experience, and endurance lead a fantastic crew to victory on the bay this weekend. Congratulations to Rob Theis and crew who brought home the Rolex and Trophy!
