There are a lot of truly passionate people in RingCentral: those who care about their craft and beyond. We’re thrilled to introduce you to some of our local champions — team members who consistently push past their limits on cycling tracks, running trails, and mountain peaks.
Tanya: Cycling towards the win
Tanya has never been a professional athlete, however she’s been used to cycling since she was a child. Once she relocated to Bulgaria to join our team here, everything changed dramatically.
“For a long time, cycling was just a means of transportation for me, a way to unwind and spend time pleasantly. However, after moving to Bulgaria, I have been actively participating in competitions and approaching cycling in a more systematic and strategic way.”
Training for competitions means discipline and hard work. Tanya bought a trainer bike, so that she could always stay active, even when the season’s out. During the winter, she trained three times a week with two shorter sessions followed by a longer ride. Once it got warmer outside, she set a goal to ride at least 400 kilometers per month.
But it’s not just about sports: cycling became a way to build new bonds after the move.
“There’s a wonderful cycling community here in Sofia, which keeps growing every month. It provides me with an opportunity to connect over bike rides, which feel like small adventures, and make new friends.”
Over the last year and a half, Tanya has managed to perform at several major competitions. Among them:
- L’Etape Greece by Tour de France;
- Triman Olympic Distance 51.5 Triathlon in Greece (cycling stage);
- “Veloobikolka na Severozapada” bicycle race (participated twice);
- “Po stapkite na trakite” cross-triathlon (cycling stage).
At a recent competition, the Northwest Bulgaria Cycling Tour, Tanya clinched first place in the 60 km ride. Reflecting on her spectacular victory, she shares:
“I won’t lie — I tend to go for these competitions to win. I feel huge joy and pride from the fact that the goal was achieved, and the winter hours on the bike trainer were not spent in vain. Such a victory incredibly motivates me to move further and not to stop at what has been achieved.”
We’re wishing Tanya all the luck for her nearest plans: on July 4, she’s joining the L’Etape Bulgaria by Tour de France!
Daria: Coffee rides turned nation-wide races
This year Daria also took part in the Northwest Bulgaria Cycling Tour along Tanya, but in the 90 km ride. It was her first experience with such a challenge, and she proudly took third place!
“All my previous experience was limited to rides around the city, ending in a coffee break, and leisurely outings not far from Sofia. In April, I upgraded my bicycle to a more professional one, and decided to join some competition, motivated by the example of my colleagues.”
The fascination with bikes happened naturally and gradually. At first it was a way to explore the country, something in addition to hiking. But then Daria started going larger distances with her new friends, until she suddenly realized she was ready to try something serious.
Daria considers her spectacular finish at the Northwest Bulgaria Cycling Tour a “10 out of 10” success.
“I kept spinning even when it seemed that it was already time to stop. I am very pleased with myself and am even thinking about taking a slot for a larger distance next year.”
But it wouldn’t have been possible without support from the team:
“I would like to thank RingCentral Bulgaria for providing me with a spot at the competition, and the HR team for handling the registration and other things necessary for my participation.”
Alexey: Stepping up to the podium
Each year RingCentral Bulgaria arranges participation in major sports events for the local tech community. This year, Alexey and a crew of colleagues teamed up for the Business Run Sofia, taking on the high-energy power walk category.
“I wanted to test myself and check my physical abilities. I don’t train per se, but I do long power walks several times a week to bring some movement to life and enjoy occasional hiking. I was also excited to represent the company — and justify the trust placed in me.”
The experience was positive, with the team members supporting each other through the race. Alexey mentioned that the event was organized beautifully, bringing together people and spreading joy.
The power walk race resulted in Alexey’s team winning second place.
“It was a pleasant surprise, I felt the joy of victory and that I still got some. After the race, my team and I replenished the burned calories in the nearest bar and spent some wonderful time together.”
Denis: conquering the multisport matrix
Denis is the type of an athlete that has done it all. Running, cycling, duathlon, triathlon — you name it.
“In Bulgaria, I participated in a duathlon in Lovech “Otvod most” — a bicycle plus running competition, and three triathlons — “Po stapkite na trakite”, “Thi Legend” and “Lion’s Heart”.
Denis says that these competitions are famous for their good organization, friendly atmosphere and picturesque routes. It’s more about overcoming oneself, than competing with others.
“Above all I liked the cycling stages, because I enjoyed studying the track and also because with my new bicycle it sometimes felt as if I was flying along the distance!”
Denis has also done a half-marathon. He was preparing for it as if he was anticipating it would be his last serious competition. He tried to use everything he had up his sleeve to prepare for the race. He remembers a defining moment from that race:
“But by the middle of the distance, I found myself with two strong runners, who were purely warming up for the first half. And then as they sped off I decided that there was nothing to lose and I wanted to run with them. But in the last two kilometers of the race, I had to pay for this. I let them go, rested a bit and then reached the finish line at my own pace. My previous experience with races helped me to relax at the right moment and maintain good speed in the last moments of the competition.”
Even though Denis has been enjoying these competitions, he admits that they require a lot of physical, mental and emotional strength. Ready for a new kind of focus, he is shifting his gaze from the pavement to the peaks: rock climbing.
“Since childhood, I have loved mountains. I like the general feeling of being somewhere high in the mountains — there’s this special scent, air, snow and incredible views. I am still figuring out why exactly I need to climb somewhere, and not go on foot. Perhaps, the physical exhaustion is what my body asks for. Perhaps, the views from steep walls are better. Perhaps, it is interesting to play with the climbing gear, to figure out exactly how to complete the route, to do something the way I want and take responsibility for it.”
