We are pleased to announce that RingCentral has joined the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Since 1994, the W3C mission is to lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure the long-term growth of the web. Well-known W3C standards HTML and CSS are the foundational technologies upon which websites are built.

These standards, and many others, have driven interoperability across vendor platforms and led to the rapid evolution of the web as a more interactive and globally accessible tool. The WebRTC standard, now available in all major browsers, both on desktop and mobile, empowers RingCentral to deliver a secure, trusted, and delightful one-click audio-video experience that enables business productivity. RingCentral Video, our online meetings and collaboration solution, uses the WebRTC standard.

RingCentral has also joined W3C’s Web Real-Time Communications Working Group, which has a mission to define client-side APIs to enable real-time communications in web browsers. These APIs enable building applications that can be run inside a browser, requiring no extra downloads or plugins, that allow communication between parties using audio, video, and supplementary real-time communication, without having to use intervening servers. RingCentral is represented in this group by RingCentral’s Senior Director of Video Engineering, Arnaud Budkiewicz.

“Since I joined the W3C for the first time in 2012, I saw HTML5 and WebRTC becoming widely adopted standards. Today, I am thrilled to bring RingCentral’s expertise to the consortium and contribute to shape the future of frictionless and secure communications.” – Arnaud Budkiewicz

RingCentral looks forward to collaborating with other W3C members on reshaping the communication landscape while building the future of the web.
