Theta Lake is a pioneer in the growing RegTech field, providing AI-based tools to help businesses in regulated industries keep their digital communications compliant with data-protection and retention regulations. As the company looked into relevant technologies to embed its recording and supervision products—such as conferencing platforms and phone systems—it found most vendors offered only point solutions.

With RingCentral, Theta Lake saw that it could offer its compliance functionality across an organization’s entire digital communications.

It also appreciated RingCentral’s open platform, which made it easier to build an integration, partner with RingCentral, and gain exposure to new markets.

And as Theta Lake’s compliance integrations earned the attention and interest of customers on the RingCentral App Gallery, the relationship expanded with Theta Lake joining the RingCentral Connect Platform™ Partner Program.

Looking for specific traits in potential integration partners

“When we started Theta Lake, our initial focus was creating compliance supervision tools for companies’ video communications,” says Anthony Cresci, Theta Lake’s VP of Business Development and Operations.

“What was interesting was that RingCentral customers kept coming to us asking if we could apply our AI-based compliance functionality to more than just their video and phone communications,” Cresci explains. “They wanted to apply these tools also to their SMS text messages, online faxes, voicemails, team chat messages, file sharing—basically all of their digital communications. And every time we asked RingCentral for these APIs, the company had them all.”

“In fact,” Cresci continues, “we have plans to expand our RingCentral integration to include RingCentral Contact Center as well as additional tools within RingCentral Office and the customer engagement portfolio.”

 “We found that experience to be unique to RingCentral. It really spoke both to the breadth of RingCentral’s unified communications solution and to the emphasis the company put into building out its open API ecosystem to encourage other vendors to create value for their customers.”

“When we started the company, we were a young RegTech company with only so many resources, and we had to think very strategically about which potential partners would give us the greatest return for the time we put in. Finding a leader in unified cloud communications that would allow us to build an integrated compliance suite, not to mention a company that also had an open platform we could build on, that was a big ask. But RingCentral fit all of those attributes perfectly.”

A productive partnership from the start

“RingCentral was extremely responsive and helpful as we built our compliance apps for the company’s voice, video, and chat solutions,” Cresci says.

“There were so many ways to get the answers we needed: a developer community set up on RingCentral’s Glip team-messaging app, a self-service portal that showed us exactly what it would take to get our app published, even a set of robust debugging and monitoring tools that let us dig into the specifics of the API calls. And, of course, RingCentral had a developer support team always there to help.”

“I think we had our first integration with the call logs API up and running in just a day or two.”

Having its compliance integrations featured in the RingCentral App Gallery also helped Theta Lake gain exposure to highly qualified leads. “RingCentral has relationships and credibility with many of the companies we launched Theta Lake to serve—businesses in heavily regulated industries such as financial services, insurance, and healthcare. A lot of these companies don’t even know RegTech tools exist and that they are natively integrated with the RingCentral Office suite. The App Gallery introduced a lot of them to our solutions, which has been great for our business.”

From integration partner to business solution partner

As the relationship grew into a full solution partnership—under the RingCentral Connect Platform Partner Program (CP3)—Theta Lake found RingCentral investing a great deal of time and effort introducing the company to prospects, RingCentral customers, and the company’s sales teams. RingCentral also provided go-to-market support for Theta Lake by sponsoring events, inviting the company’s leadership to speak at conferences, and creating content to drive awareness of Theta Lake’s AI compliance suite.

“RingCentral featured us at several of its summits and large-scale events for customers and industry analysts,” Cresci explains. “To give you one

example, we were featured at RingCentral Analyst Day, which was particularly great because it exposed Theta Lake to the UK market—which has increased compliance needs due to MiFID II call recording regulations and GDPR privacy law.”

“That type of prominent promotion of us as a solution partner, and the effort the RingCentral team put into making key introductions to the right people at relevant customer organizations, underscored for us that we had chosen the right solution partner in RingCentral. It also landed us several referenceable customers.”

From a solution partner to a RingCentral customer

“The more time we spent working with RingCentral’s unified communications solution as an integration partner, the clearer it became how valuable it could be internally, for Theta Lake’s own operations, to have a single environment and vendor for all our digital communications: phone, audio conferencing, video chat, team messaging, file sharing, SMS, online faxing, voicemail, everything in one place.”
