Event planning by spreadsheet doesn’t scale
In late 2022, Netlify was preparing to host an all-hands meeting for more than 250 employees in person and remotely. Having attained the industry leadership position by this point, becoming the go-to platform for millions of web developers, the organization had grown to hundreds of employees.
Michelle Denomme, Senior Employee Connection & Experience Manager for Netlify, explains that “Managing this company meeting meant coordinating travel, room bookings, itineraries, dietary restrictions – you name it – for a couple hundred employees onsite, not to mention creating ways for those joining virtually to have a great experience as well.”
As Michelle also explains, she had to manage this massive undertaking using scattered and disconnected static files. “We did the planning using a combination of Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Docs, Slack messages, and emails. As you can imagine, keeping track of everything was an enormous headache.”
For the first event I hosted here at Netlify, it took about 200 spreadsheets to track all the details. So, I asked my manager if we could look into event software before we started planning the next get-together. That search led us straight to RingCentral Events.

Planning with RingCentral Events makes all the difference
After researching event software platforms, Michelle’s team at Netlify found RingCentral Events to be the most comprehensive, intuitive, and scalable solution – and backed by the organization with the strongest reputation for customer support.

“It was really a night-and-day contrast running our inaugural Netlify Compose conference with RingCentral Events,” she says. “Instead of building every detail from scratch and trying to keep track of everything across a mountain of files and messages, as I did with that all-hands meeting, now I had everything accessible in one user-friendly platform.”
Although the Netlify Compose conference was far more complex than the company’s 2022 employee meeting – comprising more than 1,200 attendees, some onsite and others virtual – Michelle explains that it was actually a smoother experience from a coordinating standpoint thanks to RingCentral Events.
“From the earliest planning all the way through our post-conference reports and analysis, I had every detail captured in the same place. I used RingCentral Events to create our conference’s landing page, sell tickets, register attendees, send out show-related emails, manage our ticket discount codes, update the show’s agendas and floor plans, and even manage the virtual chat sessions throughout the show. RingCentral Events was our hub for everything.”
Having RingCentral Events to help run Netlify Compose was so valuable in terms of creating a positive experience for our virtual attendees. The chat was lively and really connected our onsite and remote visitors. It was great to see how engaged people were, asking questions in the chat rooms, and how well we were creating a unified experience for attendees everywhere.

The most immediate benefit of using RingCentral Events for the company’s 1,200-attendee Netlify Compose, Michelle explains, was the tremendous time-savings.
“Everything I needed was in one place, so I didn’t have to hunt through Slack messages or Google Docs to find anything,” she says. “And because the RingCentral Events admin portal is so sophisticated and user-friendly, I was able to quickly recreate a lot of the templates and content from that first event for the next one.”
But as Michelle also notes, her team has found an even more significant benefit than the massive time savings – a benefit they weren’t anticipating.
