Interwest Consulting Group Connects Remote Staff Easily and

Interwest Consulting Group provides public agencies and small cities with services such as city engineering, construction management and geographic information systems. The company also provides IT services, transportation planning, building and safety in addition to real estate services. Founded in 2002, Interwest Consulting Group has 230 employees across nine locations in California, Colorado, and Nevada.

Keeping remote employees and offices connected

Before choosing a RingCentral cloud communications solution, Interwest Consulting’s three primary offices in California each had individual PBX systems. Although there are an additional six office locations, the majority of the employees work remotely. Anytime changes or updates needed to be made to any of the PBX systems, assistance from external technicians was necessary, which made administration and management difficult. Accessing voicemails on these PBX systems was also extremely problematic.

“Before we had RingCentral, our PBX systems were a nightmare, and our remote staff used cell phones,” says Mohammad Ahmed, IT Manager. “We relied on local vendors for maintenance, and it could take two to three days to get issues resolved.”

Unifying communications

Now that Interwest is using a cohesive phone system, communication has become more efficient for employees and their customers alike. Call routing enables the company to ensure that customers who need assistance on a local level receive the help they need. Not all of Interwest Consulting Group’s offices have an administrative assistant on staff on site—but with RingCentral Office®, incoming calls can be routed to any location or person. Moreover, because RingCentral provides fax capabilities across all devices, Interwest was able to eliminate all analog fax lines.

Ahmed and his colleagues previously had their hands full when attempting to manage the entire company’s various phone systems. Their time can now be spent working on other projects and tasks rather than constantly maintaining the phone system. RingCentral’s administration portal can be accessed across all devices, enabling the IT staff to make changes anywhere, anytime.

“Before we switched to RingCentral, we were paying for a third-party conferencing service and spending $8,000 alone on our PBX systems.” says Ahmed. “Now we’re saving a total of $48,000 per year.”
