{"id":51492,"date":"2022-03-22T07:22:58","date_gmt":"2022-03-22T14:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newrcblog.wpengine.com\/us\/en\/blog\/?p=51492"},"modified":"2025-03-13T06:38:51","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T13:38:51","slug":"transition-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/us\/en\/blog\/transition-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Transition game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Highlights:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tech industry often suffers from a lack of diversity \u2014 leaving underrepresented people behind while barring businesses from benefiting from untapped talent.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The RingCentral Transition N2 Tech apprenticeship program helps people jumpstart their tech careers by removing gatekeepers and providing hands-on experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last November, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/finding-your-shot\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we sat down<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with three members of our Transition N2Tech program to discuss the realities underrepresented people face when trying to launch a technology career. We\u2019re proud to announce that Isaac Pyram, James Sagastume, and Charity Myers are all now graduates of the Transition N2 Tech program\u2026and full-time RingCentral employees. We recently followed up\u00a0 to hear about\u00a0 their experience in the program and what they recommend for others considering the same path.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading h2\"><b>Storming the gates.<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51494\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51494\" style=\"width: 190px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-51494\" src=\"\/us\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/James-Sagastume.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"190\" height=\"190\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51494\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>James Sagastume<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James and Isaac, who joined us as full-time application security engineers, recognized the restrictiveness of the tech industry early on in their career search. \u201cThere is still a lot of gatekeeping where underserved, underprivileged groups have a much harder time getting in.&#8221; Isaac acknowledged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRingCentral dare[s] to be different and take a chance on someone with the raw ambition to want to make it change,\u201d James shares. Instead of limiting who has access to the company, the Transition N2Tech program expands the field by investing in people who may not have the experience, but have the skills and desire to learn and grow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading h2\"><b>Getting the word out.<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51493\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51493\" style=\"width: 190px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-51493\" src=\"\/us\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Charity-Meyers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"190\" height=\"190\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51493\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Charity Myers<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Removing barriers to the tech industry is important, but it\u2019s not the full picture. Charity, who\u2019s now working full-time as a UX Interaction Designer for RingCentral, shed some light on the importance of simply making the information about these opportunities available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was interested in making apps, but I didn\u2019t even know there was a name for people who do that stuff,\u201d Charity recalls. It took <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">years<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between the time she first became interested in technology and the time she found a viable entry point \u2014 which tells us there\u2019s a real need for more effective outreach and opportunity out there.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading h2\"><b>Closing the gap.\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51495\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51495\" style=\"width: 190px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-51495\" src=\"\/us\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Isaac-Pyram.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"190\" height=\"190\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51495\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Isaac Pyram<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tech industry is not always the most diverse workforce. This not only hurts specific companies, who miss out on a variety of perspectives and skills, but it also makes it harder for underrepresented people to get into the space. Transition N2Tech blows past the traditional \u201cyou need experience, but how do you get it\u201d -barrier by giving underrepresented candidates the opportunity to jump right into the action. \u201cThe team behind Transition N2Tech is really solid, very helpful, and helped me feel prepared,\u201d Charity shares.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RingCentral is eager to reap the rewards of having a diverse and talented team. In fact, apprentices make tangible contributions to daily operations. \u201cIt&#8217;s amazing to see that your work is actually being used internally,\u201d James shares. It\u2019s a win-win for everyone involved.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Transition N2Tech program isn\u2019t just about having the opportunity to join RingCentral. It\u2019s primarily aimed at helping underserved individuals kick-start their tech careers. \u201cEveryone has made outstanding contributions to RingCentral and to their personal resumes,\u201d says Pyram.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading h2\"><b>A Different Way Of Hiring<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RingCentral\u2019s Transition N2 Tech program was birthed out of a realization that entire communities were being ignored by the technology industry. It\u2019s designed to provide alternative entry points for people who may or may not have tech experience, may or may not have attended or completed college, or people already in the workforce with a solid work ethic, but no industry experience.\u00a0 Transition N2 Tech invests in this talent-rich group by giving them the experience they need through apprenticeships with the industry\u2019s best.
