{"id":50415,"date":"2021-12-22T07:24:04","date_gmt":"2021-12-22T15:24:04","guid":{"rendered":"\/us\/en\/blog\/?p=50415"},"modified":"2025-03-13T06:39:10","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T13:39:10","slug":"2021-together-part1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/us\/en\/blog\/2021-together-part1\/","title":{"rendered":"2021, Together (Part 1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Highlights:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RingCentral was listed at #18 on Glassdoor\u2019s \u201cBest Places To Work\u201d -list<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are also ranked #2 for Company Happiness and the #1 Company for Diversity by Comparably.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the past year, floodgates opened and RingCentral has earned accolades for everything from compensation to perks to \u201cBest Company Culture,\u201d \u201cBest Company for Women,\u201d \u201cBest CEO,\u201d and \u201cBest Company for Diversity.\u201d\u00a0 As Chief People Officer, I\u2019m obviously very proud as most of these awards are based on anonymous employee input.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I would be the first one to say that we are not perfect and we have a long way to go. But it also makes me ask &#8211; What did we, as a company, actually <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to earn the praise we are getting?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My hypothesis &#8211; it\u2019s our culture and the conversation we got going about reexamining our \u201cpurpose-led culture\u201d, has inspired and invigorated our employees. RingCentral employees are special &#8211; the vibe I have experienced and the examples I have seen are that they have always supported their peers. When a colleague faced hardship, they surrounded them with affection and provided resources. I have seen RingCentral employees doing their work as an extension of helping solve a societal problem.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I believe shared value is the most powerful way for companies to work and to deliver on their \u201cpurpose.\u201d I also believe the people of RingCentral share a sense of pride about <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">why<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> we do what we do, and their shared sense of purpose informs every move we make.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RingCentral\u2019s mission is \u201cto power human connections.\u201d The tangible things we do &#8211; technology, products and services &#8211; help businesses all over the world communicate, collaborate, connect and thrive. But as Chief People Officer, I think there\u2019s a secret sauce to how we achieve that mission &#8211; our own people and the culture each one of them creates and supports.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The way we connect with one another is not only the truest embodiment of our mission, it\u2019s an ongoing test case we can, and should, share with the world.\u00a0 Here is an overview of a few ways our culture set us apart in 2021. We are not perfect and we have a lot more to do but I hope this can be a playbook that can inspire more innovation because I think it\u2019s a great reminder of how powerful human connections really are.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>JANUARY &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Employee Resource Groups were important before COVID. Now? They\u2019re a crucial source of information, progression, and above all, connection. BE@R (Black Employees @RingCentral) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/ringcentral-bear-erg\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shared a few of the ways<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ERGs create a sense of community, improve employee retention and ultimately make RingCentral a more welcoming, innovative and competitive workplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>FEBRUARY &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Powering human connections demands constant innovation. And that demands a constant stream of fresh ideas. That was the thinking behind <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/season-of-innovation-winter-interns\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">our first-ever Winter RingTern <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">session, a cohort of 32 interns. Ultimately we hosted over 120 interns globally in 2021 (our biggest year ever!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>MARCH &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s a reason RingCentral consistently earns \u201cBest Company for Women\u201d -honors, and that\u2019s not just due to compensation, flexible scheduling or the emphasis on career growth we offer. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s the women themselves.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I don\u2019t think there\u2019s another company in the world with more driven, dynamic, brilliant women, every one of whom seems to be constantly supporting, pushing and inspiring other women. Our March 2021 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/leading-omen\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SaaSy Women\u2019s Leadership Panel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a fascinating discussion around how women in technology define leadership now, and how the next generation of female leaders can take success to an even higher level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>APRIL &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> One of the things I\u2019m proudest of is the honors we consistently earn for diversity. We\u2019re one of Mogul\u2019s Top 100 Diverse Employers. We\u2019re Comparably\u2019s #1 Best Company for Diversity. And we\u2019ve received a 100% rating from the Corporate Equality Index. That doesn\u2019t just happen. It takes leadership, effort and execution. Most of all, it takes <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">purpose<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 RingCentral truly believes diversity is a competitive advantage, which is why we prioritize it as highly as we do. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/allyship-in-action\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This discussion of allyship in action with Akshay Srivistava<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a great example. It takes more than words to build a diverse workforce, and I loved seeing how inspiration from Vlad turns into tangible results for our Finance team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>MAY &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2021 was a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">huge<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> year for RingCentral China. Between dealing with the pandemic and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/hello-to-hangzhou\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opening a new facility in Hangzhou<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, no one would have faulted the team for taking their foot off the proverbial gas pedal a little. Well, they did exactly the opposite, absolutely lighting up the scoreboard with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/ringcentral-china-is-certified-by-great-place-to-work\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/3-keys-to-an-award-winning-global-workplace-a-qa-with-ringcentrals-china-gm-marc-chan\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and leveraging our technology to turn China\u2019s \u201c996\u201d <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(9am-9pm, six days a-week)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> work culture upside-down. We are not surprised that<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Harvard Business Review<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> named China GM Marc Chan \u201cOutstanding Management Person of the Year,\u201d but we\u2019re certainly proud.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>JUNE &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Did I mention how proud I am of the emphasis RingCentral puts on diversity? Well, I\u2019m mentioning it again. RingCentral is among the first major U.S. tech companies to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ringcentral.com\/us\/en\/blog\/juneteenth-2021-signals-waves-of-change\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">make Juneteenth a paid holiday<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and I believe the impact of this overdue gesture will pay dividends for years to come. June also saw RCause in Conversation produce <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DxoAfl-WdCk&amp;feature=youtu.be\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a video on the experiences of the parents of transgender children<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that I found really powerful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stay tuned for Part 2 of
