Technology. Philanthropy. And especially, culture. This month\u2019s Pride celebrations are no exception. We chatted with leaders of our Rainbow Room Employee Resource Group (ERG) to get a little background on RingCentral\u2019s commitment to equality in the workplace, and the details on how we\u2019ll be celebrating #RCPride this month.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jason Lane, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senior Employee Experience Business Partner, London, UK<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sheevaun Thatcher, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VP, Global Digital Learning and Enablement, Belmont, CA\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading h3\"><b>RingCentral was awarded a 100% ranking by the Human Rights Campaign and designated as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality for 2021 &#8211; the third year running. Tell us a little about the work that goes into that.\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LANE: The HRC\u2019s (The Human Rights Campaign\u2019s) Corporate Equality Index is the leading benchmarking tool we use to grade ourselves on corporate policies, practices and benefits. The HRC takes a 360 degree look at our organisation&#8217;s processes, benefits, and practices to ensure an equitable work environment for LGBTQ employees, and I\u2019m very proud they were able to see how radically inclusive our environment really is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THATCHER: \u201c I helped found\u00a0the Rainbow Room ERG \u2014a safe space for LGBTQ and allies.\u00a0 And I can tell you,\u00a0RingCentral takes diversity and belonging <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">very<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> seriously.\u00a0 I feel safer and more a part of the RingCentral family than at any other company I\u2019ve ever been a part of.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading h3\"><b>When we talk about diversity, equity and inclusion, the term \u201cunconscious bias\u201d comes up a lot. In your opinion, has there been progress made over the past year?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LANE: \u201cRingCentral supported the launch of the Rainbow Room ERG during the pandemic, which has made us better able to listen to the community, and build together. We have been able to host different webinars throughout the year, demonstrating what a supportive workplace looks and feels like, and that\u2019s a great way to start the conversation about what\u00a0unconscious bias actually <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and how to address it together.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THATCHER: \u201cThere has definitely been progress in the last year with a lot more active discussion around unconscious bias.\u00a0 Many people don\u2019t realize they hold certain\u00a0 biases and we\u2019ve done a lot of work at RingCentral to educate people.\u00a0 There is still a long way to go, but I\u2019ve seen real progress being made.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading h3\"><b>Tell us about the theme of Pride 2021.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LANE: It\u2019s called \u201cJune Pride &#8211; Love is Universal. \u201c The idea was sparked after sharing stories about our significant others with our colleagues. We realized\u2014regardless of who we loved, love comes in all shapes, sizes, depths, and everything else under the rainbow. Love isn&#8217;t just between two people who start something more with one another, it can be between family members, friends, and even yourself.\u00a0 The theme is meant to help us all have fun, build community, and showcase the idea that love is universal!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THATCHER: \u201cIt\u2019s about the idea that love doesn\u2019t have a singular look to it.\u00a0 Love doesn\u2019t come in a neat tidy package wrapped up in a bow.\u00a0 Love is all shapes, all sizes, all people.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading h3\"><b>Is there a particular element of \u201cLove is Universal\u201d you\u2019re excited about?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THATCHER: \u201cI\u2019m excited about hosting the Rainbow Room Panel on June 10. We are going to have a very open and frank discussion with some seriously courageous, brave folks who are generous enough to share their personal stories.\u00a0 I\u2019m extremely grateful that they have come forward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LANE: \u201cThis is a really difficult question to answer, but I can tell you, I\u2019m proud of the level of collaboration I\u2019ve seen. So many people have been involved from the Rainbow Room to our Employee Programs Team to our Culture Council. Everyone\u2019s worked so hard\u2026I feel like the program offers something for everyone this month, and I\u2019m proud to have been a part of it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading h3\"><b>What, in particular, do we have to celebrate this Pride Month?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THATCHER: \u201cWe\u2019re still not fully able to gather in person, but we\u2019re getting closer in many parts of the world. People are connecting with family and friends again after so many months of isolation, and that\u2019s a great reason to celebrate Universal Love. Pride exists to honor\u00a0 LGBTQ-identified people and their allies, but it\u2019s always been a great time to celebrate love.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LANE: \u201cThis is an excellent opportunity for us all to educate ourselves on what Pride really means\u2014it\u2019s fundamentally a protest, not a party. And while many societies have advanced, unfortunately there are still people around the world losing their freedom and even their lives <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> simply for being nothing but themselves. Universal Love is a great way to stand up for them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u201cPride exists to honor\u00a0 LGBTQ-identified people and their allies, but it\u2019s always been a great time to celebrate love.\u201d\u00a0 &#8211; Sheevaun Thatcher<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading h3\"><b>What can allies do to help?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LANE: : &#8220;One of the best ways you can participate in Pride is to donate to LGBTQ+ organizations via our RCause platform\u2014where all donations are matched.
