Furthermore, telehealth companies saw a funding boom of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercehealthcare.com\/tech\/telemedicine-companies-saw-a-funding-boom-q1-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$788 million<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the first quarter of 2020\u2014something experts say was completely unrelated to the public health crisis. To offer some perspective, telehealth companies raised $220 million in the first quarter of 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patients began to show a heightened interest in telehealth before 2020 because:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They don\u2019t have to travel to a doctor\u2019s appointment<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They don\u2019t have to sit in a waiting room<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They can see the doctor in the comfort of their own home<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These considerations have a significant impact on patients. A 2017 survey showed that the average in-office visit is\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateashford\/2017\/01\/30\/videodoctor\/?sh=653dc7c910ce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">121 minutes long<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with 101 of those minutes spent commuting and in the waiting room. The following statistics paint a picture of what patients want in the New Normal:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JD Power\u2019s second annual telehealth satisfaction survey in October 2020 scored patients\u2019 approval of telehealth services at\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckershospitalreview.com\/telehealth\/telehealth-patient-satisfaction-soared-in-2020-despite-persisting-disparities-6-stats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">860 on a 1,000-point scale<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A study published in July 2020 from the American Gastroenterological Association showed that over\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cghjournal.org\/article\/S1542-3565(20)30976-9\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">90% of all GI patients<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> said their provider addressed all of their issues during their telehealth visits, and 84% of GI patients were willing to have more telehealth visits in the future.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research published by consulting firm Press Ganey in May 2020 showed that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/images.healthcare.pressganey.com\/Web\/PressGaneyAssociatesInc\/%7B353645d0-ea02-4a11-a012-ba4f0c3debb9%7D_2020_PG_Telemedicine_Special_Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">over 70% of patients<\/a> found it was easy to talk to their doctors during a video appointment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-45618\" src=\"\/us\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/deliver-hybrid-telehealth.jpg\" alt=\"RingCentral for Telehealth\" width=\"930\" height=\"608\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From these reports, it\u2019s clear to see that patients don\u2019t want providers to stop delivering telehealth services even when it\u2019s safe to hold in-person visits.
