We chatted recently<\/span> with Anthony Cresci, Theta Lake\u2019s VP of Business Development and Operations, about how to successfully grow a startup in an industry that\u2019s often limited by regulations\u2014<\/span>check out the interview here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Startups can become so focused on their core product that they neglect to ask, ‘What if this works? Do we have the tools to operate effectively if we grow?’\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Theta Lake had the foresight to think through these issues early\u2014and the team is benefiting from three key decisions they made.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. They merged disparate solutions (that don\u2019t work together) into one<\/span><\/h3>\n

Anthony Cresci, the company\u2019s VP of Business Development and Operations, recalls that in their early days, the team used whatever communication tools they could get their hands on. That meant an <\/span>app for messaging<\/span><\/a>, another for <\/span>video conferencing<\/span><\/a>, and everyone\u2019s cell phones for calls. And beyond technology and tools,<\/span> like many tech startups<\/span> there\u2019s the disparate <\/span>global<\/span> geography element too. This is something that most startups are no stranger to\u2014today, most startups are hiring beyond their immediate cities and countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hiring a lot of gifted employees, and it\u2019s difficult to retain that level of talent if your people feel like they\u2019re out there on their own,\u201d says Anthony. \u201cEven though we\u2019re separated by geography, RingCentral is helping us to build a close-knit and highly effective team\u2014all working toward a common purpose.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ironically, the idea to create a more consistent and unified communication and collaboration experience for their employees and teams occurred to Theta Lake as they were integrating their RegTech apps into RingCentral\u2019s platform for their customers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe more time we spent working with RingCentral\u2019s unified communications solution as an integration partner, the clearer it became how valuable it could be internally,\u201d Anthony explains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs we began growing and onboarding more people, we realized the value of bringing all of these different types of communication\u2014SMS, chat, video, audio\u2014onto a single platform where everything worked seamlessly with everything else.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cWe were a globally distributed team from the beginning. Having to jump among different apps throughout the day to communicate was definitely not helping our ability to brainstorm, innovate, and keep things moving.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n
