For an overview, some benefits of Answering Rules include the ability to do the following:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"postList\">\n<li id=\"3dd1\" class=\"graf--li graf-after--p\">Give each employee and department their own business hours and create unique answering rules as needed.<\/li>\n<li id=\"2981\" class=\"graf--li graf-after--li\">Set after-hours rules to route calls to a home phone number, directly to voicemail, a mobile phone, or any other working number.<\/li>\n<li id=\"cdb9\" class=\"graf--li graf-after--li\">Routing schedule allows calls to your sales department to transfer to one agent on Mondays and Wednesdays, and to another agent the rest of the week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"b824\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--li\">By providing access to customize Answering Rules via the API, different user experiences can be created to update these rules and updates can also be automated. A popular use case for the latter is programmatic updating to synchronize users for on-call scheduling systems such as <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pagerduty.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"\/r\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pagerduty.com%2F\">PagerDuty<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"a595\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--p\">New API capabilities include:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"postList\">\n<li id=\"0011\" class=\"graf--li graf-after--p\">Updating the User Business Hours rule via the business-hours-rule endpoint<\/li>\n<li id=\"da33\" class=\"graf--li graf-after--li\">Updating the After Hours rule via the after-hours-rule endpoint<\/li>\n<li id=\"cb53\" class=\"graf--li graf-after--li\">Updating forwarding numbers for each rule including order ring time<\/li>\n<li id=\"c22f\" class=\"graf--li graf-after--li\">Creating Ring Groups<\/li>\n<li id=\"0f0f\" class=\"graf--li graf-after--li\">Setting forwarding numbers to ring sequentially or simultaneously<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf--li graf-after--li\">This builds on the previously released capability to:\u00a0Update forwarding number phone numbers<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p id=\"3999\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--p\">These are described in the this <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringcentral-quickstart.readthedocs.io\/en\/latest\/answering_rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"\/r\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fringcentral-quickstart.readthedocs.io%2Fen%2Flatest%2Fanswering_rules%2F\">Quickstart Guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ee3b\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--p\">These capabilities match the Call Handling and Forwarding Rules on the\u00a0<a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/service.ringcentral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"\/r\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fservice.ringcentral.com\">RingCentral Online Account Portal<\/a> as shown below:<a href=\"\/blog\/?attachment_id=18738\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18738 noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18738 size-full\" src=\"\/us\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ringcentral-online-account-portal.png\" alt=\"ringcentral online account portal\" width=\"478\" height=\"611\" \/><\/a>This API is currently available under our beta program.
