entrepreneurial spirit Tuesday November 17th is National Entrepreneur Day. People began celebrating this holiday in 2010. And every year since, on this day, we celebrate those men and women who have the initiative and passion to build something out of nothing. Today we honor those who have inspired entrepreneurship over the years. Here are 5 inspirational entrepreneurs who have encouraged greatness:

2) Madam CJ Walker“Don’t sit and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them.”

Madam CJ Walker was the first black female self-made American millionaire. Walker found great success as an entrepreneur from the late 1800’s through the 1900s.  Inspired to find a solution to a problem that plagued her, Walker found a mentor, adapted her knowledge and thrived. Madam CJ Walker exemplifies what can be accomplished with a vision and lots of hard work.

3) Steve Jobs“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”

Every entrepreneur, in fact most everyone, knows this name. Steve Jobs is one of the most recognized and influential entrepreneurs of our time. He dropped out of college, due to financial constraints, and went on to form the Apple computer company. Many consider Jobs to be the grandfather of the digital revolution. A visionary who inspired, and continues to inspire, men and women around the world hoping to thrive as entrepreneurs.

4) Benjamin Franklin“An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.”

Benjamin Franklin was an innovator. This man of a thousands hats was a scientist, printer, political, inventor, author, diplomat, businessman, and founding father of the United States of America. Franklin exemplifies true entrepreneurial spirit and continues to inspire many, including entrepreneurs.

5) Bill Gates“It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.”

Co-founder of Microsoft, Gates is one of the most famous entrepreneurs of our era.  A strategic thinker, Gates inspires entrepreneurs to challenge current thinking, innovate and work hard to achieve success. This entrepreneur is also widely known for his philanthropic activities. He established the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000 donating over 30.2 billion dollars.
