At ConnectCentral 2017, RingCentral’s recent annual conference, RingCentral Chief Operating Officer, Dave Sipes, spoke about the digital workplace of today and the future, and the role of Collaborative Communications. Collaborative Communications allows teams, customers, and partners to work the way they want by putting collaboration at the center and enabling enterprise workflows through an open-platform approach. This unified experience encompasses team messaging, along with voice, video, online meetings, and more, and lets people communicate using any device—whenever, wherever, and however they want.
During his opening keynote at ConnectCentral, Dave invited RingCentral customer Jason Kasch, Chief Information Officer at Structural Group, to join him on stage. Structural Group is the winner of this year’s RingCentral Business Impact Award announced at ConnectCentral 2017. In the following guest blog, Jason shares his thoughts on collaborative communications and how his company is using this to move their business forward.
Structural Group is a construction services company with almost 3,000 employees spread across 32 offices worldwide. Our company does engineering and product manufacturing, and we’re also a self-performing contractor. We have a very diverse workforce that combines both white-collar and blue-collar employees on the same team.
My focus at Structural Group has been to find ways to put our employees first and get everyone working on the same page. Because we’re a highly collaborative organization, I knew that streamling communications between our field crews and office staff could be a real game changer and something that could save us both time and money on projects.
Achieving measurable results in the real world
When it comes to our day-to-day operations, solutions like RingCentral Glip can really make a measurable difference in the way we work at Structural Group. Now our construction crews on-site can collaborate in real time with our engineering staff back in the office to discuss unexpected situations as they occur. So, a problem that could have taken several shifts to solve just two years ago can now be solved in 30 minutes or less.
In the construction business, tornadoes, floods, or other natural disasters can quickly shut down an entire facility or job site. With a cloud communications and collaboration solution like RingCentral, I don’t have to worry about those things, thanks to the disaster recovery and business continuity features that are built right in to the product. So even if one of our facilities is underwater, our customers will still be able to get through to us via mobile devices or other communication modes. That’s invaluable to our business.
On the sales side, RingCentral makes it easy to embed video and audio conferencing, screen pops, customer interactions, and RingCentral Glip right in to Salesforce so our sales staff doesn’t have to switch between apps. And what if a member of our construction crew needs to discuss a sudden change on the job site? Someone on our sales team can immediately jump on a RingCentral meeting or Glip team to strategize on how to best handle the situation.
