The holiday shopping season is upon us once again, and this year, there’s a new promotion day to add to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Dubbed Small Business Saturday, November 27th is now the day that shoppers are being encouraged to buy from local merchants.
In partnership with American Express, advocacy organizations such as the 3/50 Project and the National Association of Women Business Owners are bringing to light the benefits of buying local. Even Facebook, Yelp and more than a dozen other private enterprises are offering their support to help raise awareness of the importance of small business in cities and towns alike.
In the past two decades, 65 percent of new jobs have been created by small businesses. And, for every $100 spent at locally owned businesses, $68 goes back to the community. Just $15, by contrast, remains local when a purchase is made at a big-box retailer.
At RingCentral, we celebrate small businesses everywhere and encourage consumers to shop local during this holiday season and beyond. For more information on the initiative, go to www.smallbusinesssaturday.com
Share with us on Facebook how you’re planning to support local business during this holiday season.
