{"id":24569,"date":"2022-08-17T09:56:16","date_gmt":"2022-08-17T08:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"\/gb\/en\/blog\/?p=24569"},"modified":"2023-01-16T16:56:16","modified_gmt":"2023-01-16T16:56:16","slug":"taking-on-the-peaks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/gb\/en\/blog\/taking-on-the-peaks\/","title":{"rendered":"Taking On the Peaks for the British Red Cross"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Highlights:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Team raised \u00a34,911 for the British Red Cross to support humanitarian aid to Ukraine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, the team completed the Challenge in 23 hours, 56 minutes, with four minutes to spare!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was just a little over a month ago that a few of us at RingCentral and Vodafone Business came together to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge in the UK. I would say we knew what we were in for, but you can never quite prepare for the unexpected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before I share my take on our experience, let\u2019s talk about what the challenge is and why we wanted to do it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"peaks\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is the National Three Peaks Challenge?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It involves climbing the three highest peaks in the UK within a 24 hour period. That\u2019s Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales. Groups that take part usually have a trusty driver (or two!) waiting to take them from one location to another . While climbers are strongly encouraged to sleep between each commute, when you&#8217;re in the back of a cramped, sweaty van going down windy roads, getting some shut-eye can be harder than you think.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24576\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24576\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24576 size-full\" src=\"\/gb\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/three-peaks-diagram.png\" alt=\"three peaks diagram-553\" width=\"700\" height=\"649\" srcset=\"\/gb\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/three-peaks-diagram.png 700w, \/gb\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/three-peaks-diagram-300x278.png 300w, \/gb\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/three-peaks-diagram-640x593.png 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24576\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image source: https:\/\/www.mountaineerin.com\/what-are-the-3-peaks-mountain-challenge\/<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having said this, plenty of people sign up to do it (the latest figure I heard is 30,000 climbers each year!) Why? It\u2019s fun, grueling, but most of all, rewarding. That\u2019s because it\u2019s a great way to raise funds and awareness for charities and valuable causes, and this is the main reason why we signed up for it.The intention was to raise money for the British Red Cross for all the work they\u2019re doing to help abate the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Want to see how we got on? Here are a few of the highlights from our experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24570\" src=\"\/gb\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Three-peaks-image-carousel-Video-1.gif\" alt=\"Three peaks image carousel (Video) (1)-997\" width=\"1440\" height=\"810\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Images of everyone that took part, including: Richard Massey, Martin Man, Sean Blackmore, Mark Bean, Matteo Kotch, Carl Watson, Matt Gregory, Niall Carter.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"metres\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3,400 metres (up and down again)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, in addition to all the sleep deprivation it was a strenuous experience and there was plenty of rain on each of the summits. Yes, even by UK standards it was wet for this time of year and the terrain was often unstable (especially Scafell Pike). Plus, we didn\u2019t get off to a great start. On our way to Ben Nevis we got into a traffic jam which caused a 30-minute delay &#8211; this seems like hours when you\u2019re on a timer!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We climbed each peak in the following order:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ben Nevis (1,345m)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scafell Pike (978m)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snowdon (1,085m)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s over 3,400m of climbing and a driving distance of 462 miles in total, in under 24 hours. Just let that sink in\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, we completed the challenge in 23h56m and raised \u00a34,911 across our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/fundraising\/vodafone-business-uc-with-ringcentral\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JustGiving page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and RCause, our internal giving platform. While we know millions of other people volunteer and raise funds for the British Red Cross each day, we were chuffed to get a thank-you from the charity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24571\" src=\"\/gb\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Three-Peaks-quotes-1.gif\" alt=\"Three Peaks quotes (1)-665\" width=\"1440\" height=\"810\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"next\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s the next challenge?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RingCentral and Vodafone Business recently launched our joint cloud communications offering \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vodafone.co.uk\/business\/unified-communications\/vodafone-with-ringcentral\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vodafone Business UC with RingCentral,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d but this was the first time we had come together to complete a challenge like this. We\u2019re now thinking of what we could do next (Kilimanjaro, huh?).
