Infographics Marketing: What’s Working in 2016

Infographics are one of my favorite methods for creating engaging and shareable content online. Not only are infographics loved by a wide range of audiences around the world, they are also great for marketing, building awareness, and more importantly… get new traffic and backlinks to your site.

To help with this process, I’m going to break down an easy to follow process for you to find success with an infographic of your own. However, it’s not just the creation and content of the infographic that matters the most, it’s actually the outreach and promotion and promotion that takes place afterwards.

A good example of this can be seen within the infographic category on this site. All of them provide value and were relevant to RingCentral’s audience, which got them picked up and shared in the first place. By always focusing on value and user engagement, you can never go wrong.

How to See Explosive Results with Infographics in 2016

Before we jump into my 5-step infographic formula for success, I want you to first realize the importance of picking the right topic for your infographic and then marketing in the right way. There are currently over a billion active sites on the internet today. That means you need to have better content, marketing and engagement than most of them if you want to find immediate and long-term success.

1) Pick the Right Topic for Your Infographic

Most people think the hardest part about creating an infographic, is actually creating it. The real work actually comes in before and after this process. The ‘before’ part of this, is the data and research required to making sure you have a design and concept that is going to work for you.

In short, before creating your infographic, you should have an idea why you are creating one in the first place, who your audience is, the value they are going to get out of it and how you are going to monetize and promote your infographic after it goes live.

2) Analyze Your Competition and Make Something Better

As mentioned earlier, there are over a billion active sites on the internet today. With some many sites already out there, it means nearly anything you could possibly think of has already been written about several times over. The difference between sites that rank #1 in Google, versus those that rank on pages 5 and beyond isn’t just their content promotion, it’s also the value and type of content they create.

Now that you have an idea what type of infographic you want to make for your site, it’s time to analyze your competition in the search results to see what type of content they are creating… and how you can make it better. This research will come in handy for the data to use within your infographic, but also in step 3 of my process as well.

3) Design and Go Live with Your Infographic

With your infographic now live, it’s time for you to share it with the rest of the world. The first thing you are going to want to do is to write up a 1,000+ word article to go along with your infographic. This will help your site rank in the search results, as the infographic image by itself on a page won’t perform so well. As you browse through the content on the reference above, you will notice it’s over 1,000 words of content, includes images, lots of resources and reference links and also an infographic. You will also want to make sure you include social sharing buttons on your page and an embed code for others to easily share your infographic on other sites.

4) Take Advantage of Social Media and Video Platforms

Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest… when you add them all together you end up with over 2 billion active users around the world. With so many users in just handful of sites, it would be a huge mistake not to take advantage of these opportunities.

Also, don’t forget about the power of sites like YouTube, Vimeo and DailyMotion. These video sites serve billions of impressions daily… but what do they have to do with infographics? Simple — discover how to convert your infographics into animated video and you can start taking advantage of all of these video networks, while also doubling your chances to rank in the search results.

5) Infographic Marketing and Outreach Means Everything

The last step in the process is the most important, which is to put in the time and effort to make sure your audience and others know about your infographic. The most immediate ways to do this is by promoting your infographic through your site and social media networks. However, if you were to stop here and just hope for the best… you’ve already lost.

To find success with infographics, you need to continually reach out to new sites and try to get more mentioned and backlinks to your site. One of the best ways to do this is through the use of guest blogging, where you would actually provide content to other sites in exchange for an author bio at the end of the article, along with a possible backlink to your site and social profile. When applicable, you could reference or feature your infographic within such content.

To get featured within content on big name sites and media outlets, you will need to make it worth their while. For example, sites like Huffington Post, Forbes and Entrepreneur are all based off contributor content. This means a lot of different editors write for the site — all of which can easily be contact through their bio sections on the site. As the infographic creator, you should be contacting all of these sources and see if they would like to cover your infographic in a future post. You can also incentive the offer by saying you will put in some marketing dollars to help promote their article once it goes live.

Yes, it’s a lot of work to effectively promote your infographic and find success with your outreach, however just one of these big media links could mean all the difference in the world to the success of your site!

As you can see, there is quite a bit of work when it comes to creating and marketing infographics online. At the same time it’s also one of the most cost-effective and rewarding methods out there.

Not only are infographics great for bringing exposure and backlinks to your site, they are also loved by audiences everywhere. This means once you start putting it out there for the masses to see, they can start doing all of the marketing and social sharing for you.
