The Australian Government introduced a temporary scheme from March to September 2020, allowing health professionals to treat patients virtually or over the phone. This has been embraced enthusiastically by Australians.\u00a0 It turns out that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/community-news\/southern-gazette\/gps-issue-warning-as-patients-turn-to-telehealth-during-covid-19-pandemic-c-1057053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">we have had the largest uptake globally in new users of telemedicine services<\/a> during the COVID-19 pandemic. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2020-06-19\/telehealth-revolution-must-continue-regional-doctors\/12360912\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ABC News<\/a> reports that doctors in rural and regional Australia are urging the Government to continue the telehealth scheme, saying it will help to close Australia&#8217;s health gap.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The point of care is not necessarily where the physician is, it\u2019s where the patient is<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The implications of COVID-19 have certainly impacted this trend, and many providers are now planning beyond their interim demands to more permanent telehealth programs.
