Conrad Guthrie Phone System Success Story
RingCentral Mobile spoke with Texas-based lawyer Conrad Guthrie, who has been practicing law in the greater Houston area for 7 years. Guthrie specializes in commercial litigation, personal injury and intellectual property.
RC: First of all, I have to ask: Are you related to Woody Guthrie, the famous American folk singer of the 1930s and 40s? I noticed that you also play music as a hobby.
CG: You caught me. My brother told me once we were distantly related to the famous Guthries, but I do not recall how. Woody was born in Oklahoma. I expect his people came from the Pennsylvania / West Virginia area like mine and that's the connection. My music background is a bit different than theirs. I decided to enter a song writing contest that's part of the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival every year. I had to buy some albums to figure out exactly what folk music is!
RC: Why RingCentral?
CG: I used to work for a mega-sized law firm, and then decided to manage on my own as a solo practitioner. When I went into solo practice, RingCentral was a cost-efficient way to take care of my answering needs.
RC: Which features are most beneficial to attorneys?
CG: RingCentral helps with document management - you can manage your messaging and contact information. For instance, if someone faxes me something, the fax number is there and saved and you can go back and pull it up or save the contact information to your hard drive. I can save messages on my PC and access them from wherever I am.
Also, when someone calls or faxes, I can scroll through a list of phone numbers from incoming messages in my online account - the numbers and messages come directly to my computer. Voicemails are saved in my account and I can refer back to them over and over on my computer. And you get one number for both voice and fax.
RC: It sounds as if accessibility is also very important.
CG: Accessibility is a big thing in terms of voicemail and faxing. If people call me and can't reach me they can leave a voicemail, which I then can access on my computer from anywhere. When I first went on my own, I traveled all the time. Is RingCentral helpful during traveling? Oh, you bet, it's very helpful.
RC: You said that you refer RingCentral to other attorneys. What do you tell them?
CG: RingCentral is a great service and, yes, I have referred it to other solo practitioner-types. I expect it to be helpful for any small business. What I really like, what people keep asking me about, is the Internet fax feature. When people fax me and it comes through RingCentral, the fax is automatically converted to a .PDF file, and I can forward the fax to anyone directly from my computer and I can save the fax to my hard drive. Other attorneys are very happy to fax me things, and are always asking me who I use.
RC: So then the fax from the Web feature must be very handy for you.
CG: The fax from the Web is a sweet feature.
RC: Specifically, what kind of cases do you take?
CG: Commercial litigation, personal injury, banking transactions, real estate, etc., tort litigation.
