Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans Success Story - Non-Profit Industry
Like many of its neighboring organizations, the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO) was devastated when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. Its main offices were destroyed and its employees, which were scattered throughout the city of New Orleans, had little means with which to reach one another.
Leaders of the organization then realized that the toll free number - to which they subscribed from RingCentral just months before the Hurricane - would still be working because the service was virtually-hosted in California.
Taking advantage of the viable line of communication, leaders created customized voicemail messages for the number. Employees were then able to call the number to keep updated with the status of the organization.
A year after Katrina, 900 of the 1,000 employees CCANO had before Katrina were able to get resituated with the organization. The toll free number that kept everyone in touch now serves as an emergency hotline for employees to turn to in the event of another disaster.
