What is Unified Messaging?
Do you have a cell phone? Home phone? Work phone? Does each phone have voicemail? In addition, do you also have a fax machine? It would seem then, that you have a lot of work to do just to keep up with all of your messages, faxes and phone calls.
The idea of unified messaging is to consolidate all of your communications needs into a single phone number to allow complete control of all your calls, as well as your voice and fax messages. Your clients, family and friends only have to know one number to reach you. You never have to give out a private number yet you can forward calls to them to be reached if and when you want.
RingCentral fulfils this idea by providing you with a single toll-free number that can accept inbound faxes and voice messages 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and saving them in your unified online account. These messages may be accessed online or over the phone, and can even be forwarded as attachments to multiple email addresses, providing even greater work efficiency.
RingCentral can also route your voice calls to multiple numbers, e.g., your cell, home and work phone, etc., but will always save messages in your voicemail. Therefore, RingCentral eliminates the need for numerous voicemail services, passwords, and most of all, time consuming phone calls to check voice messages.

Yes! Simply forward your calls to your toll-free RingCentral number. Your existing number will be enhanced with RingCentral's communications features.
RingCentral can even submit a request to your local telephone company on your behalf. We have provisioning relationships with many of the major carriers in the United States.

Can I switch my current toll-free number to RingCentral?
You can switch your existing toll-free number to RingCentral; the ordering process for this type of change can take anywhere from 10 to 40 days to complete. You will need to complete a Letter of Agency (RespOrg) form and return this form directly to our service provider. If you're interested, please send a blank email to transfer@ringcentral.com and you will automatically receive further information and instructions via email.

Can I choose my own vanity number?
Yes. You can get a toll-free vanity number for your business through RingCentral. Numbers are subject to availability and the ordering process for vanity numbers takes anywhere from 7 to 10 days to complete. There is a $30 setup fee for ordering vanity numbers.

How long does it take to activate?
Your account and phone number is activated immediately upon signup. Regardless of the service level you select, you will receive 30 free minutes to use as you wish during the 7-day free trial. Without penalty, you may cancel at any time during your free trial by simply contacting our support team by phone (888-898-4591). If you choose to continue your subscription with RingCentral, you will be automatically upgraded on the 8th day, and you’ll receive the full amount of included monthly minutes for your service level.
If you run out of free minutes during your trial, you can purchase more minutes or simply upgrade your account manually by clicking the Prepaid Savings or Upgrade link from your online account.

Do I “own” my number? Can I keep my toll-free number if I choose to cancel?
The number you receive upon signup is your own personal and dedicated local or toll-free number. So long as you have paid for at least one month of service, you may keep your number.

Do I need a phone line or special equipment to make this work?
No additional telephone lines or features are needed to use RingCentral. The unified messaging provided by RingCentral is a completely stand-alone system.
To answer incoming calls, you will need a phone—that could be a cell phone, your home phone, an office phone or any other existing line.
Even if you do not have a phone, RingCentral will receive incoming voicemail and faxes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and save them to your online account. You can retrieve and listen to these messages directly through your computer speakers. RingCentral will also log every caller—and their Caller ID—that ever dials your toll-free number, and identify them in your online account.
No additional local or long distance telephone features or hardware are required for RingCentral to function.

How are minutes used and how much do they cost?
You will be billed by one-minute increments, rounded to the nearest minute. For example, if you're on the phone for 1.47 minutes, you will be billed for 2 mintues. In addition, a fax uses about 1 minute per page. Keep in mind that RingCentral does not double bill for domestic forwraded calls.
Additional minutes may be purchased in $10, $20, and $40 blocks of time. Please check our pricing page for information.

Can I upgrade to a different service level or change my billing plan at any time?
Yes! You can switch service levels at any time directly through your online account.
Note: If you have pre-paid for a semi-annual or annual billing plan and would like to upgrade before your billing plan expires, you may contact our support team by phone (888-898-4591) for a pro-rated adjustment of your payment.

Am I charged for checking messages?
Online Retrieval
You can access your online account and retrieve your messages anytime for free, and you are not charged for having your messages forwarded to your email address(es).
Minutes are never used for these features in any of our service offerings. Even getting text message notifications to your cell phone is completely free and unlimited.
Over-the-Phone Retrieval
When checking messages or logging into your account by phone for any purpose, e.g., account administration or using your Virtual Calling Card, minutes will be used.
For flat rate customers, minutes are not "metered"; however, calling in will count against the fair use limitations as defined in our Terms of Use.
